Personal
According to Johnnie F. Sutton (see Sources): "I remember my grandfather, Henry Frank Sutton, very well. He died one week before my twelfth birthday...He would work in the garden in early morning and late afternoon, as well as other chores, when he was well into his eighties. He was devoted to my mother [Minnie Louisa Bagwell, wife of Charles Otis Sutton], called her 'Honey', and would do anything she asked him. She, in turn, saw that he always had something to do and was never neglected. He was a kind and gentle man."

Mr. Sutton [my first cousin, twice removed; see here for a pretty handy chart for figuring out family relationships], says that Henry Frank grew up in Britts Township, Robeson County, North Carolina. After their marriage, Henry and Anna farmed in Thompson Township, near the South Carolina state line. In 1891, they moved to Georgia and settled in Wilcox County. They were likely looking for better opportunities, as history records that Robeson County was then stagnating economically. And they did prosper in their new home, as their family continued to grow. Unfortunately, like many other people, they lost everything when the stock market crashed in 1929. That didn't deter them; their children were grown but their home was still a favorite for the grandchildren. Henry Frank and Prudence Anna are both interred at Morningside Cemetery in Rochelle, Wilcox County, Georgia.

Mr. Sutton describes Henry Frank as "small in stature, 5 ft. 6 or 7 in. tall. Maybe 150 pounds, very blond, with a full head of very white wavy hair, he stood straight until the very end. He was 84 years, 5 months old when he died. He was one hell of a big little man."

On Henry's and Prudence Anna's marriage license application dated 16 Nov 1878, Henry's father, J.T. Sutton is listed, as are his uncle, Hardy J. Stone (married to his paternal aunt, Mary) and brother-in-law, English Rice (married to his sister, Zada).

In the 1900 census, Henry and Anna were living in Rochelle, Wilcox County, where they moved prior to 1891 judging from the birthdates and birthplaces reported for their children. The household profile is as follows: HF, 45, farmer; Anna, 38; John Kalie, 19; James, 17; Charlie, 15; Bunyon, 14; Emma, 12; William, 8; Henry, 5; Leila, 2; Annie Lou, 1. Sons Caley (Kalie), James Charlie and Bunyon were helping HF work the farm.

In the 1910 census, Henry and Anna still had the following kids at home: Henry F., Jr., 15; Leila M., 13; Anna L., 11. There was also an Isaac Cobb, 24, working for Henry. Also living in Wilcox County was John Caleb (Caley) and his family: John C., 28; Mary L [Lula], 27; John F., 7; Lula B. [Blanche], 4; Deli I., 2; Donnie M., 10 months. Living with them was Caley's younger brother, William T., 17.
